SYNOPSIS
While the phenomenon of climate change has raised many pressing challenges for the scientific and engineering community, it also presents a number of significant opportunities within these areas to develop and implement practical solutions to a great number of problems. These opportunities can be found in fields ranging from materials development to control systems, to manufacturing and construction. Because virtually every human activity involves the use of energy, virtually every human activity will have to be re-assessed in terms of its specific greenhouse gas intensity or carbon footprint. This includes both products and services, and both the generation as well as the utilization of energy. Using energy efficiently helps organizations save money as well as helping to conserve resources and tackle climate change. ISO 50001 supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently, through the development of an energy management system (EnMS).
