SYNOPSIS
The forum gathers prominent electrical women engineers from The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), The Philippine Technological Council (PTC), and The Women Engineers of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (WE-AFEO), under the theme of "Accelerating Action: Electrical Women Engineers Shaping a Sustainable Future through Empowerment", in conjunction with World Engineering Day (4 March) and International Women's Day (8 March).
The forum aims to highlight the role of electrical women engineers in driving sustainable solutions within their specialised sectors. This platform is for electrical women engineers to share their experiences, insights, and innovative solutions that contribute to shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future.
The forum will focus on accelerating actions that foster gender equality and empower women in electrical engineering, emphasizing the importance of diversity in engineering innovation. By showcasing the achievements of women engineers in the global energy transition and sustainability. The forum also aims to inspire future generations of girls and women to pursue careers in electrical engineering. Topics covered will include sustainable practices, technological advancements, challenges, leadership, and strengthening the role of women in engineering as key contributors in the sustainability of the world.
BIODATA OF SPEAKERS
Ir. Ts. Dr. Wan Syakirah Dato' Wan Abdullah Tenaga Nasional Berhad
Member of the IEM Council for the Session 2024/2025 and Session 2023/2024. An electrical engineer specializing in renewable energy and energy storage, she brings 20 years of experience in power systems, including managing transmission networks, generation scheduling, and load forecasting. She is also actively involved in Incentive-Based Regulations, overseeing the tariff-setting mechanism for Peninsular Malaysia. Her current portfolio encompasses both international and local energy-related business development, with a focus on renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, mini-hydro, biogas, biomass, waste-to-energy, energy storage, and virtual power plants.
Engr. Vilma Claret A. Llorin Fuji-Haya Electric Corp.
Engr. Llorin is currently the Senior Manager/Head of EPC Division, Sales and Marketing Department of Fuji-Haya Electric Corp., a local manufacturer of Electrical Distribution and Control Equipment in the Philippines. For 27 years, she devoted her career in the fields of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Systems. She was entrusted in Project Management of Geothermal Power Plants, Airports, Hospital & Industrial Facilities, Infrastructures, Hotels, Resorts & Casinos, Malls & Residential Developments. She handled positions such as Board of Director in HOOD EPC CORP. from 2020 to present; President & CEO of KAMI NO AI CORP in 2019 to present; and President of AGUA LAVANDERIA '85 CORP. from 2020 to present. Engr. Llorin helped CROSS-LINK to become the first FILIPINO Owned Company who was given by Texas Instrument Worldwide the ‘SUPPLIER EXCELLENCE AWARD’ for 2 consecutive years (2008 & 2009). She has been a consistent Top Seller-Fuji-Haya Sales and Marketing form 2001-2004. She was among the Top 20 in the Electrical Engineering Board Exam in Oct. 1994. A consistent Dean's lister during her college days.
Ir. Shamila Ariaratnam Armamentarium Consulting
Ir. Shamila graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 2000. She started her career with TriSystems Engineering Sdn. Bhd. in February 2001, as an Engineer and as Project Engineer in 2004. Ir. Shamila was selected to represent Malaysia at the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS) Forum, a 55-day leadership training program in Japan for young professionals from Asian countries hosted by Honda Motor Corporation, Japan. After she returned from IATSS Forum in 2004, she joined Matsushita Toshiba Picture Display (M) Sdn. Bhd. as the Safety and Health Engineer, a position which she held from August 2004 – March 2007. She joined Subang Jaya Medical Centre in April 2007, as a Quality Executive. She rose through the ranks from an Engineer to Manager of the Biomedical Engineering Department before form her own company. Now she is self-employed under Armamentarium Consulting as a Freelance Healthcare & Biomedical Engineering Consultant, Trainer, and Auditor. She also lectures at the University of Wollongong, Glenmarie, Shah Alam. Ir. Shamila is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Technical Division (EETD).
