SYNOPSIS
The Peninsular Gas Utilization (PGU) pipeline network started operation back in 1983 and has been transporting sales gas (methane) to shippers’ and customers across Peninsular Malaysia since then. It also receives imported LNG; stores it in LNG Regasification Terminals (RGT, Sungai Udang and RGT, Pengerang), and converts the LNG to sales gas. The pipeline network includes 2633 km of pipeline, 2 LNG regasification terminals, 2 compressor stations, more than 100 block valves, and metering stations, supported by 8 regional offices across the region.
The primary customers of the Peninsular Gas Utilization (PGU) network in Malaysia are industries, power stations, and urban areas across Peninsular Malaysia. This extensive network, developed by PETRONAS, transports processed natural gas from production hubs in Kerteh and Paka to major industrial zones, refineries, and power plants, export to Singapore and the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).
This sharing will provide a brief introduction of PGU, its operations and maintenance challenges, in transporting energy source, as the backbone of industrial development in Malaysia.
