SYNOPSIS
In recent times, we have experienced more natural disasters as earthquakes is one of them. The topic of seismic bracing has been discussed lately in APAC and many properties owners are looking to build resilience and ensure that their property can withstand an earth quake event and still keep their properties functioning. In the past building structures are designed to withstand earthquake and it is the MEP services that are not braced that affect the resilience of the property. As non-structural services get damaged during an earthquake, the question why bracing was not considered in the first place. The suggested approach to take is assess how critical is my facility and whether it can operate as per normal after an earthquake and next step is to look at the location of the facility. This will help determine the decision to install seismic bracing. Also the location in relation to the seismic zones will be another consideration.
