SYNOPSIS

Malaysians are so used to smelly toilets especially public toilets that many would think that to have an odourless toilet is a MYTH. The owner of the premises where the toilets are installed would take ineffective yet costly measures in order to reduce the smell. For example, are the toilets in our airports. A full time cleaner would be stationed to wash and mop the floor regularly yet the source of the smell INSIDE the toilet remains most of the time. The typical method to wash a toilet is to FLOOD the entire floor thinking it will eliminate the smell, which DOES but only immediately after the wash. This is because the smell enters the toilet gradually.

A survey was conducted on 5 Consultant Engineers and 2 Plumbing contractors, where they were asked to design the soil and waste discharge and stack of a typical public toilet. The conclusion was none of them were able to design the discharge effectively hence allowing smell from the sanitary system to enter the toilet. This the MAIN reason why toilets are smelly. The wetness of toilet has nothing to do with smell and can create a safety issue which can cause slip and fall to users. The talk would be an open forum for any participants to put forward questions and at the end session there will be a technical solution, if adopted will ensure our future toilet will be odourless. In this respect, ODOURLESS TOILET IS NOT A MYTH.
