SPEAKERS’ BIODATA
1. Mr. Thomas Domanski currently holds the positions of Senior Consultant and Proprietor of TDA Geotechnical Services Sdn Bhd Malaysia, a Company which supports Employers and Contractors in overcoming difficulties in foundation (inclusive soft ground treatment) and retaining wall projects. He holds a Master of Civil Engineering majoring in Geotechnical Works and Soil Mechanics, obtained in 1983 at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany. He held the Singapore BCA required position of Technical Person and Approved Person for over 20 years. He is the author of many papers for international conferences to present his experience in ground improvement, deep piling works and retaining structures. Thomas is a Member of the Malaysian Geotechnical Society and TDA is a Corporate Fellow of UTM Geotropic.
2. Ir. Chen Chean Sin graduated with Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) from the Department of Civil Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taiwan in 1988. He then worked as a Geotechnical Engineer in Sino Geotechnology Incorporation, Taiwan. In year 1991, he continued his further study in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. After he obtained his Master Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, he continued his professional career in Sino Geotechnology Incorporation, Taiwan. In 1996, he joined SSP Geotechnics Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. He had involved in many local and oversea projects including hill site development, soft ground treatment, MRT and electrified double track railway projects, land reclamation, deep basement excavation, failure investigation, remedial design works and others. Currently, he is the Engineering Director of SSP Geotechnics Sdn Bhd.
3. Dr. Leong Kam Weng is currently the Director of Keller Foundations and is heading the business development for the ground improvement business in the ASEAN region. He graduated from University of Malaya, Malaysia with a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honour) in Civil Engineering. Then, with a PhD from the National University of Singapore, he has been actively involved in the design and execution of Ground improvement projects in the South East Asia for Keller such as Exxon Mobil refinery plants and Neste Renewable Energy plants in Singapore and the KVMRT project in Malaysia. He has also been a member of the Geotechnical Society of Singapore (GeoSS) since 2008 and has been actively serving on the committee ever since. He was the President of GeoSS for 2016-17 and was awarded the Outstanding Geotechnical Engineer award by GeoSS in 2018 for his contributions to society and industry.
4. Dr. Chew Soon Hoe is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National University of Singapore. Being a Professional Engineer with a PhD from the University of Berkeley, USA, he is currently the deputy director of the Centre for Protective Technology, which is a research and development centre jointly formed by Singapore's Ministry of Defence and NUS. He is also currently a council member of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore, the President of Southeast Asia chapter of International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and the President of Singapore Chapter of the Amercian Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Chew has published extensively on soft clay and ground improvement topics. Receiving many awards ranging from "Defence Technology Prize'' by the Ministry of Defence (2006), "Minister Innovative Awards" by the Ministry of Transportation (2011), "Minister's Awards (Team)" by the Ministry of National Development to "IES Outstanding Engineering Award 2021", "ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Award 2021, and several patents registered in several Asian countries
5. Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP is the current Vice Branch Chairman of IEM and the past Chairman of ACEM Sabah Branch and also the past president of Sabah Engineers Association. He has obtained his Msc. in River, Estuary and Coastal engineering from Imperial College London, England, and BSc (Hon) in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University, USA. He is the present director of PY Konsep Perunding S/B. He has worked in overseas such as England, Australia, and Brunei. Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP has extensively involved in the preparation of Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Project as well as planning, design, and supervision of the work package Projects. He has also involved in the study of River Basin flood studies. He has presented several papers locally and internationally in the field of water resource management and infrastructural development.
6. Ir. Tai Lee Yoon obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The City University, London (1980). At the present he is the Director of Jurutera Jasa (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. He has about 43 years’ experience as consulting engineer major involvement in civil, infra-road works, geotechnical works, flood mitigation study, drainage master plan study and etc.
7. Ir. Yee Tack Weng graduated from University of Malaya with Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and has more than 40 years of practical experience in Geotechnical and Geosynthetics Engineering. He currently holds a position of Sr. Technical Manager at Tencate Geosynthetics Asia (a SOLMAX company). Ir. Yee is a holder of more than 5 patents and has published more than 50 technical papers and presentations in various conferences and journals.
8. Mr. Richard Ong obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2000. In 2002, he completed his master’s degree in geotechnical engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He has been working in the field of geotechnical engineering since graduation, particularly in the field of slope stability, reinforced soil structures, ground improvement and geosynthetics. He is currently serving as a committee member for the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia.
