SYNOPSIS
The talk focuses on the use of photogrammetry, LiDAR, and laser scanning in topographical mapping and other related applications. These technologies used to be expensive and a privilege only affordable for mega-projects. However, with evolving technology, particularly the use of drones as a platform, small and tiny projects have begun to capitalize on this technology and derive enormous value. The new indoor laser scanning approach using low-cost SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) methods will also be discussed. Various methods of visualizing the point cloud including its use as a primary data source for BIM (Building Information Modeling) modeling will be briefly touched on.
