SYNOPSIS Malaysia’s transport sector represents a critical enabler for its socioeconomic development. The efficiency of a nation’s transportation system directly correlates to trade and economic growth. This session on “Introduction of Transportation Policy in Malaysia” by the Ministry of Transport served as a knowledge sharing platform to share information of the National Transport Policy 2030 which was launched in 2019. The national policy’s objectives cover the economic competitiveness, social element as well as the environmental protection. This 10-year policy is used as a main document for the Government to develop a sustainable transport sector that accelerates economic growth and supports the well -being of the Rakyat (citizen). The National Transport Policy 2030 outlines five policy thrusts including governance, infrastructure, connectivity, sustainability and globalization. Besides that, this session also provides opportunity to the participants to learn on the roles and functions of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia. BIODATA OF SPEAKER Mr. Chong Wai Kit currently served as Principal Assistant Secretary in Strategic Planning and International Division of Ministry of Transport. He graduated from University Tunku Abdul Rahman in Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) and gained his Master of Business Administration from Cardiff Metropolitan University in UK. With his 14 years of experiences in the Malaysia’s public sector, he used to be a national representative on ASEAN matters in tourism and higher education.
