SYNOPSIS
The rheology of crude oil emulsions, a blend of oil and water, impacts their flow behavior. Understanding this is crucial for efficient oil production and processing. Influenced by factors like temperature and water content, emulsion viscosity and elasticity vary. Techniques such as rotational viscometry help measure these properties. Challenges include pumpability and equipment fouling, addressed through demulsifiers and separation methods. Ongoing research aims to improve understanding and develop sustainable solutions for emulsion management in the oil and gas industry.
SPEAKER’S PROFILE
Ir. Eur Ing. Ts. Dr. Harvin Kaur is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, APU. She graduated with BSc (Hons.) degree in Chemical Engineering, MSc in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Flow Assurance) from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in 2012, 2014 and 2022, respectively. Her area of interest is in rheology, emulsion and flow assurance issues in the oil and gas industry. She is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia. Prior to joining academia, she had practiced in the industry for 7 years. Currently, she is the Program Leader for Petroleum Engineering in APU
