The project is one of the 10 identified projects under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) which Malakoff is co-championing with KPK (Ministry of Plantation and Commodities).

Currently, the biomass co-firing project is the first project to meet its intended targets under the NETR where it has already commenced burning 2% cofiring with biomass in April 2024.

Subrina Thiagarajah is a known figure in the power generation industry. Here is a snapshot of her career path:

Embarked on a journey with Malakoff Corporation Berhad in 1994, Subrina has been a key member in the company's growth for three decades. Her tenure embodies a wealth of experience and leadership across the power and water domains, both within Malaysia and internationally.

She previously held the role of Vice President Commercial, Asset Management Division. Tasked with asset stewardship, Subrina led in commercial negotiations and contractual leadership of key project agreements, interfacing with utilities, governmental bodies, and operations and maintenance contractors in regions where Malakoff maintains a presence.

Taking part in Malakoff’s expansion strategies, Subrina played a key role in commercial negotiations, for Malakoff’s intended power and water project across the region and the Middle East.

Following this she undertook the role of Project Director, of a consortium comprising a strategic alliance between Malakoff, Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, and Cadagua of Spain, that led to the successful bid and thereafter, operations of the Oman's Ghubrah Independent Water Plant.

Subrina made her return to Malakoff in 2021 as Vice President of Operations & Project Management Services Division, where she continues to apply her capabilities to advance Malakoff's objectives by spearheading innovative projects including the Biomass Co-firing project at Malakoff’s Tanjung Bin Power Plant in Johor.
