SYNOPSIS

Agricultural irrigation and drainage are fundamentally different from typical waterway design. In most cases (especially in Paddy water management), the canals and drains can serve both purposes in the interest of managing large amount of water and flows.

Through this course participant will be able to develop advance planning and design skills in Paddy Irrigation and Design through a good mix of short lectures, step by step processes and examples.

This course will cover:
•  Design criteria for Rice Granary down to Tertiary Irrigation System.
•  Paddy planting cycle.
•  Engineering survey and soil investigation planning.
•  Hydrology and water resources design
•  Irrigation design.

•  Protection from external inflow.

About Speakers

Dato’ Ir. Loh Kim Mon has more than 40 years of working experience in planning, design, operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage system. He spent over 30 years in the operation, maintenance and management of the country’s largest irrigation scheme – the Muda irrigation scheme, Kedah/Perlis. He joined RPM Engineers Sdn Bhd as a Senior Consultant upon his retirement from civil service in 2012.  Dato’ Ir. Loh graduated with BSc in Civil Engineering and has a MSc in Foundation Engineering. He is a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (PEPC) and an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE).

Ir. Shah Izzni Talif is the current Managing Director of RPM Engineers Sdn Bhd.  He started his career 15 years ago in Australia in the field of geotechnical engineering and continued his journey as a professional engineer in Malaysia since 2012.  In RPM Engineers Sdn Bhd, Ir. Shah had the opportunity to work in the field of water resources management and distribution, flood mitigation as well as agricultural irrigation and drainage systems.  His most recent large scale agricultural related project was in Suriname for paddy production and management.
