SYNOPSIS

SIRIM Berhad is one of the leading research centers in Malaysia to spearhead research in the industrial biotechnology and bio-cosmetics field. SIRIM has a long history of helping business successfully harness Malaysia’s rich natural biodiversity. Its experienced scientists and engineers can assist entrepreneurs to develop products that are safe for both the environment and society. The bio-cosmetics program is one of the research program under the Industrial Biotechnology Center and conducts natural product research for bioactive metabolites, bio-based chemicals, cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals. SIRIM’s research and development activities and  services  include extraction and purification, standardization, profiling, identification of actives, biological activity studies, safety and biocompatibility evaluations, in vitro and in vivo product efficacy studies, and product formulation and delivery technology.


OBJECTIVE

This technical visit will provide participants insights to the bio-cosmetics research and testing conducted by SIRIM Berhad to ensure safety of the users. The visit will highlight the complete lab and facilities available at the Center to develop cosmetic and topical products starting from lab scale to pilot production. The facilities include the extraction and purification labs, the safety and biocompatibility lab, the product formulation lab, the extraction and fermentation pilot plant facilities and the Cosmetic GMP Pilot Plant.
