SYNOPSIS

The Sime Darby Idea House is a socially, economically and environmentally responsive prototype dwelling that would provide an insight into future tropical living, showcasing the latest in sustainable architecture in its quest to become the first carbon-neutral residence in Southeast Asia.  This house is a collaboration involving the world’s leading technology and solutions providers – architects, engineers, landscape designers, urbanists, contractors and suppliers. The collaboration brings together some of the best innovations, solutions and technology available from these companies in their respective field to improve energy efficiency in homes and reduce the consumption of limited resources. The house is orientated to minimize heat gain and lower cooling loads. Its deep overhangs provide shade and weather protection, reducing reliance on mechanical ventilation, cooling systems and its associated costs. ‘Grey water’ from basins and showers is recycled to flush the WCs. Aerating the showers saves 64 liters per day. The rainwater captured by the sloping roof is collected to irrigate the vegetation within the development. The water harvested is 100% recycled to cater for a family of five. The Idea House has won the following list of international awards such as Winner of BCI Asia Green Leadership Citation Award 2011, Awarded BCA Green Mark Platinum Rating 2011, Winner of Best Green Development (Future) at the Cityscape Asia Awards 2010, Winner of Cityscape Dubai Environmental Award 2009 and Shortlisted for the prestigious World Architecture Festival awards 2011.
