SYNOPSIS

In Malaysia, gabion is often considered as a temporary solution for any infrastructure project. However, according to BS 10223-3, this double twisted wire mesh product can be design for up to 120 years design life with combination of metallic and polymeric coatings.

Double twisted hexagonal mesh is made by twisting continuous pairs of wires through three one-half turns, commonly called double-twisted, to form hexagonal-shaped openings which are then interconnected to adjacent wires. The double twisted wire mesh can be manufactured in different sizes to form the components of different units, according to the structural requirements of the product. This includes gabion, mattress, reinforced soil structure facing and rockfall netting.

In this visit, we will look at the production process of double twisted wire mesh to various products. You will have the opportunity to witness the assembly of mattress with vertical ties that can be used to replace riprap of >1m thick.
